The extension of the genetic engineering moratorium
In 2015, the Youth Session petitioned the Federal Council to extend the moratorium on genetic engineering to allow independent long-term studies and to promote new research projects. Two years later, both Councils agreed to extend the moratorium by 4 years until 2021.
No discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation
Participants in the 2013 Youth Session demanded that Article 8 of the Federal Constitution should be adapted to prevent discrimination based on sexual orientation. In the same year, Mathias Reynard (SP, VS) submitted a corresponding parliamentary initiative, which was adopted in the National Council and the Committee for Legal Affairs in the Council of States. The deadline for implementing the initiative was extended in 2017 until the 2019 spring session of the Swiss parliament.
